Part 1

General Privacy Policy

Your Privacy Is Critically Important to Us

It is the Blaisdell Family National Association's (hereinafter referred to as BFNA) policy to respect your privacy regarding any information we may collect while operating our website. This Privacy Policy applies to https://blaisdell.org/ (hereinafter, "us", "we", "BFNA"). We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting personally identifiable information you may provide us through the Website. We have adopted this Privacy Policy to explain what information may be collected on our website, how we use this information, and under what circumstances we may disclose the information to third parties. This Privacy Policy applies only to information we collect through the Website and does not apply to our collection of information from other sources.

This Privacy Policy, together with the Terms and Conditions posted on our website, sets forth the general rules and policies governing your use of our website. Depending on your activities when visiting our website, you may be required to agree to additional terms and conditions.

Website Visitors

Like most website operators, BFNA may collect non-personally identifying information of the sort that web browsers and servers typically make available, such as the browser type, language preference, referring site, and the date and time of each visitor request. BFNA's purpose in collecting non-personally identifying information is to better understand how BFNA's visitors use its website. From time to time, BFNA may release non-personally identifying information in the aggregate, e.g., by publishing a report on trends in the usage of its website. BFNA may also collect potentially personally identifying information like Internet Protocol (IP) addresses for logged-in users and for users leaving comments on BFNA blog posts. BFNA only discloses logged-in user and commenter IP addresses under the same circumstances that it uses and discloses personally identifying information as described below.

Gathering of Personally Identifying Information

Certain visitors to BFNA's websites choose to interact with BFNA in ways that require BFNA to gather personally identifying information. The amount and type of information that BFNA gathers depends on the nature of the interaction. For example, we ask visitors who sign up for a blog to provide a username and email address.

Security

The security of your Personal Information is important to us, but remember that no method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your Personal Information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

Advertisements

BFNA doesn't utilize ads. However, any ads appearing on our website may be delivered to users by advertising partners, who may set cookies. These cookies allow the ad server to recognize your computer each time they send you an online advertisement to compile information about you or others who use your computer. This information allows ad networks to, among other things, deliver targeted advertisements that they believe will be of most interest to you. This Privacy Policy covers the use of cookies by BFNA and does not cover the use of cookies by any advertisers.

Aggregated Statistics

BFNA may collect statistics about the behavior of visitors to its website. BFNA may display this information publicly or provide it to others. However, BFNA does not disclose your personally identifying information.

Cookies

To enrich and perfect your online experience, BFNA uses "Cookies", similar technologies, and services provided by others to display personalized content, appropriate advertising, and store your preferences on your computer. A cookie is a string of information that a website stores on a visitor's computer, and that the visitor's browser provides to the website each time the visitor returns. BFNA may use cookies to help identify and track visitors, their usage of the website, and their website access preferences. BFNA visitors who do not wish to have cookies placed on their computers should set their browsers to refuse cookies before using BFNA's websites, with the drawback that certain features of BFNA's websites may not function properly without the aid of cookies.

By continuing to navigate our website without changing your cookie settings, you hereby acknowledge and agree to BFNA's use of cookies.

Privacy Policy Changes

Although most changes are likely to be minor, BFNA may change its Privacy Policy from time to time, and in BFNA's sole discretion. BFNA encourages visitors to frequently check this page for any changes to its Privacy Policy. Your continued use of this site after any change in this Privacy Policy will constitute your acceptance of such change.

Part 2

Personally Identifiable Information (PII) Privacy Policy

Purpose

The purpose of this Privacy Policy is to create guidelines with respect to the use and availability of personal genealogical and other information contained within the BFNA Ancestral Quest database — the software program which has close to 90,000 records of individuals related by blood or marriage to the immigrant ancestor Ralph Blaisdell, or related to the Blaisdell name including its variant spellings.

Commitment of Privacy

Privacy is extremely important to BFNA. To better protect the privacy of those who have so generously provided genealogical and personal information to BFNA, this policy has been adopted by the BFNA Executive Committee to explain the way information is collected and used. BFNA understands the importance of maintaining the confidence of its members by protecting the privacy of information which has been provided to BFNA. BFNA further understands that deceased persons do not have a right of privacy and that certain personal information concerning living individuals is also not protected. Having said that, BFNA desires to comply with the reasonable privacy requests of its members and others when they submit personal information about themselves or their living family members for such information not to be shared with the general public. BFNA intends to honor all past and future assurances of privacy.

Data Security

To prevent unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure the correct use of information, BFNA has decided that the information collected and/or provided to it shall not be available online, nor will the entire database or significant parts thereof be available through any of the following means:

  • 1.The data shall not be downloaded to any mobile device, thumb drive, CD, or any similar technology.
  • 2.The data shall not be made available to the general public nor shared with any institution of higher learning, any historical society, any governmental historical society, any genealogical society, any public library, or any similar institution.
  • 3.Access to the Ancestral Quest database is limited to the Genealogist (who also serves as the Owner of the database), the Vital Statistics Editor, and the Associate Genealogist, all of whom serve on the Executive Committee. All who have such access agree to comply with the provisions of this Privacy Policy as a condition of such access.

Information on Living Individuals

BFNA recognizes the importance of maintaining the privacy of information collected with respect to living persons and especially minors. BFNA strongly discourages minor children from submitting personal information to BFNA. BFNA may collect and receive information provided by members and others about living individuals in the form of marriage announcements, birth announcements, and obituaries. Such submission includes the right of BFNA to make such information available to other family members upon request and to publish such information in the Blaisdell Papers. Providers of personal information regarding living individuals have the right to request that such information, or certain designated portions thereof, be deleted from the BFNA database. BFNA will avoid collecting social security numbers, medical information, health histories, DNA information, or similar personal information on living individuals. Likewise, personal information which might be considered disparaging or otherwise non-edifying in the opinion of the BFNA Genealogist shall not be maintained by BFNA in its database.

Sharing of Information with Third Parties

BFNA may from time to time provide information, including personal information on living individuals, to Members of BFNA upon their specific request. Members must indicate that they are part of or related to the particular Blaisdell line being requested. Non-Members may request information concerning their particular Blaisdell ancestors, but such information is limited to those individuals in the Ancestral Quest database who have been deceased for at least fifty years; the BFNA Genealogist shall in his/her sole discretion determine whether or not to provide the requested information. None of the information collected or provided shall be leased or sold. However, BFNA shall require a reimbursement fee, as may be determined by the Executive Committee, to produce and mail family information to those requesting it.

Availability of This Policy

Since BFNA does not solicit nor collect any personal information on its website, it is not required to make this Privacy Policy available to the general public. However, any member of BFNA is entitled to have a copy of this privacy policy upon request.

Effective Date

This Privacy Policy became effective in January 2017, which indicates the date this policy was approved by a vote of the BFNA Executive Committee. The BFNA Executive Committee reserves the right to revise or amend this Policy at any time in its sole discretion.
